CURRENT POLICY PRIORITIES

The League of Women Voters of Ohio (LWVO) is a nonpartisan, grassroots nonprofit dedicated to empowering everyone to fully participate in our democracy. With active Leagues across Ohio, we engage in advocacy, education, litigation, and organizing to protect every American’s freedom to vote.

Our primary actions are rooted in how to make democracy work at all levels. Most of our time revolves around voting and elections. We never endorse or oppose political parties or candidates, but we are political.

VOTING AND ELECTIONS

Since 1920, the League of Women Voters of Ohio has worked to improve the function of Ohio’s electoral and participatory democracy. Today, this legacy drives us to work with lawmakers on policy to ensure secure elections and voting access for all eligible Ohio voters, recruit poll workers and support election officials, and provide voter education to voters and potential voters across the Buckeye State.

EDUCATION

A basic principle of the League of Women Voters is that every person deserves access to a high-quality public education. It is as fundamental to citizenship as is the right to vote.  Public education is not a consumer item, but a resource for the common good that serves a civic purpose– effective self-governance.

HONESTY FOR EDUCATION

Honesty for Ohio Education is a nonpartisan, statewide coalition that partners with diverse education stakeholders across the state to champion honest education and affirm cultures and identity in the classroom.  As a coalition, we solicit input and feedback from partners and allies, prioritize diverse perspectives and experiences, and commit to learning and growing to advance our work.

Honesty Partners include state and local organizations, students, families, educators, legal professionals, healthcare providers, civic leaders, and faith communities.

REDISTRICTING

Ohio is one of the most gerrymandered states in the United States. That's because Ohio politicians have drawn legislative district maps to benefit themselves or their political party– both sides do this. The League has fought for fair maps for more than four decades, and we continue to advocate at the state and local for independent redistricting commissions that won't let politicians pick their own voters.
