Columbus, OH - Today, election officials and voter advocates across the country are holding in-person and virtual voter registration drives as part of the second annual National Voter Registration Day. The Ohio Association of Election Officials and the League of Women Voters of Ohio are urging Ohioans to take advantage of online voter registration opportunities.

“Registering to vote has never been easier,” said Karla Herron, President of the Ohio Association of Election Officials. “Last year, the Ohio Secretary of State launched a new website,, that allows voters to check and update their voter registrations with just a few clicks.”

National Voter Registration Day is a massive 50-state effort to register thousands of voters before Election Day this fall, November 5, 2013. Ohio’s voter registration deadline is October 7th for voters wishing to cast a ballot in November.

“Many voters only cast a ballot once every four years during U.S. Presidential elections, but all the elections in between impact your life and your community. Thousands of decisions will be made by voters this November, from races for mayor or county government to judges to school levies,” said Nancy Brown, President of the League of Women Voters of Ohio. “The goal for the 2013 National Voter Registration Day is to remind voters of the importance of local elections by encouraging Americans to register to vote and come out to the polls on November 5th.”

“As we get closer to the November 5th election, voters will hear more about issues to be decided in their communities,” added Ms. Herron. “We are urging voters to get their registration in now, before the October 7th deadline, so they have a voice in their community’s future.”

As a non-partisan unofficial national holiday, National Voter Registration Day counts on partners across the political spectrum. Started in 2012, National Voter Registration Day is designed to create an annual moment when the entire nation focuses on registering Americans to exercise their most basic right—the right to vote.

“If you are not sure if your voter registration is current, go to,” urged Ms. Brown. “Make sure you are registered, update your information if it has changed, and make sure your vote counts on November 5th.”
